MESSAGE IN THE MIX

Principles: 1) Strength is ordained by God when we follow His plan. He gave us every green thing to enjoy and to thereby fortify ourselves like iron. When we are strong, tempered by love, we strengthen others. 2) Many natural foods that contain iron are green, like spinach. Proper (and not excess) iron levels keep us energized throughout the day. When we feel strong, we have more confidence. Holy boldness is empowered by good health, which is also a testimony of God’s goodness so long as we are thankful to Him. When we add wisdom to good health, we are strong in body and mind.

Devotional Reading: Proverbs 27:14, Ecclesiastes 7:19, Philippians 4:19, Psalm 20, Isaiah 61

Memory Verse: Proverbs 27:14 – “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

DEVOTIONAL READING

Ecclesiastes 7:19

Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Psalm 20

1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; 2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
3 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
4 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions. 6 Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. 8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright. 9 Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.

Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. 4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. 5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. 6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. 8 For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Application

God has the power to do anything. Nothing is impossible for Him. He has the power to give us strength when we are weak, courage instead of fear, beauty for ashes, faith and hope rather than doubt and despair, joy for mourning and so much more. When we hold fast to the promises of God, we can believe in His truth, which says that we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) through Jesus Christ who loved us.

When we properly care for our bodies, partly by eating sustenance that naturally strengthens us, we do show appreciation for the temple (body) over which God has made us stewards, because we belong to Him. As he gives us strength to fight the good fight of faith, proper nourishment helps us to fight illness and infection. As God is our strong tower into which we can run and be safe, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit of God; and we owe our due diligence to keep it strong as we might, for God does reward the good steward of His several gifts (Matthew 25:14-29). Even long life is a reward of healthy and Godly living.
